A public health genomics lab (PHG Lab), Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Diponegoro with Purworejo Ministry of Health and Yonsei University are currently investigating rodent-borne zoonoses, focusing on the genetic and environmental factors that contribute to the spread of diseases from rodents to humans, such as leptospirosis and hanta viruses in Purworejo Regency Central Java Province. This research is crucial due to the rising incidence of zoonotic diseases linked to rodent populations, especially in urban areas where greening initiatives can inadvertently increase rodent populations and, subsequently, the prevalence of pathogens they carry.

The Center for Public Health Genomics is at the forefront of this research, using advanced genetic and public health approaches to understand and mitigate the risks associated with rodent-borne diseases. This work encompasses a range of activities, from risk factors discovery, gene discovery and translational genomics to developing public health policies and interventions aimed at preventing these diseases.

This research is essential for developing effective interventions and raising public awareness about the importance of controlling rodent populations and monitoring zoonotic disease outbreaks.
