Semarang, 11 September 2025 – Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has successfully organised the International Teaching Fellowship Programme from 3 to 6 September 2025. This initiative featured Professor Ts Dr Shamsul Bahari Shamsudin from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) as the visiting lecturer, supported by Prof. Dr. Ir. Mursid R, M.Si from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) at UNDIP. This activity is part of UNDIP’s World Class University (WCU) programme and was designed to enrich students’ learning experiences through international perspectives, whilst supporting UNDIP’s objective to improve its International Faculty indicator in the QS World University Rankings.
The International Teaching Fellowship Programme represents a strategic endeavour by UNDIP, as a world-class research university, to invite internationally renowned foreign academics to elevate educational quality and global competitiveness. The presence of international lecturers is anticipated to add significant value to student learning, introducing innovative teaching methods and global insights relevant to contemporary dynamics. Furthermore, the programme aims to hone students’ competencies in critical thinking, adaptability, and solution-oriented approaches, thereby preparing them to compete effectively in national and international labour markets.
This initiative aligns with UNDIP’s vision as a leading university that contributes substantially to high-quality education and societal development.
The key activities conducted during the programme are outlined below:

Campus Sustainability Initiatives: On Wednesday, 3 September 2025, from 09.00 to 11.30 WIB in the Smart Class, Professor Shamsul Bahari Shamsudin shared UMS experiences in international networking, strategies for reducing campus environmental impacts, and the initiation of a double degree programme between FKM UNDIP and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at UMS. Attended by the Dean, Vice Dean, Heads of Study Programmes, and Heads of Departments—totalling approximately 30 participants—the session yielded outputs including the initiation of international networks and joint research collaborations.

Public Lecture to Students (S2/S3): On the same day, from 13.00 to 15.30 WIB in GD. H, Floor 5, a public lecture addressed teaching and technical aspects of measurements in Health Risk Assessment (HRA) for industrial workers. Participants comprised 50 doctoral programme (DIKM) students, who gained additional knowledge and skills in HRA.

Develop Research Projects Related to Environmental Health Issues and Food Security: On Thursday, 4 September 2025, from 08.00 to 11.00 WIB in the Smart Class, small group discussions explored international issues in environmental health and food security, alongside initiations for joint research and publications. Involving the students, Research Centre, Heads of Study Programmes, and Environmental Health lecturers, this activity resulted in proposals for collaborative research and publications.

Publications and Media Engagement: On Thursday, 4 September 2025, from 13.00 to 15.30 WIB in Hall D, Professor Shamsul delivered content on the technical aspects of writing articles for publication in reputable journals. The session engaged 200 undergraduate and master’s students in Environmental Health, providing them with enhanced knowledge on publication processes.

University-Community Engagement and Outreach Programme: On Friday, 5 September 2025, from 08.00 to 11.00 WIB, community outreach activities in Semarang focused on food safety and environmental health. Attended by Faculty of Public Health student organisations, lecturers, 50 students, and 50 community members, the programme delivered international community service outcomes.
In addition to academic sessions, the programme included a City Tour on Friday, 5 September 2025, from 13.00 to 17.00 WIB, and a Join Fun Walk with alumni and the UNDIP Rector on Saturday, 6 September 2025, from 06.00 to 17.00 WIB. The event concluded with Professor Shamsul’s return to Sabah on Sunday, 7 September 2025.
Through this programme, UNDIP not only strengthens international collaborations but also fosters sustainable knowledge exchange. The success of these activities is expected to serve as a foundation for similar initiatives in the future, supporting the university’s aspiration as a centre of excellence in education and research.
