The Faculty of Public Health (FKM) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has actively participated in international activities by sending one of its lecturers to a prestigious international event. The 5th Malaysian Congress of Toxicology 2024 (MYCOT2024) is part of efforts to enhance International Academic Networking, supporting the vision of becoming a World Class University.
Dr. Mursid Raharjo represented UNDIP at the conference, presenting his research on the innovative use of nanosilver technology for vector control. This research, developed in collaboration with Prof. Agus Subagio and Dr. Sulistyani, spans a four-year period from 2020 to 2023. The research was presented under the title: “Nanosilver As An Alternative Substitute Material to Reduce the Toxic Effects of Carbamates and Organophosphates in Controlling Malaria Vectors in Indonesia.”
Dr. Raharjo highlighted an innovation from UNDIP’s Integrated Laboratory in the development of nanosilver material, with particles measuring less than 100 nm. This material, with a concentration of 1.5 grams per liter, when applied using the Insecticide Residual Sprayer (IRS) method, provides up to six months of protection against Anopheles mosquitoes in malaria-endemic areas. He emphasized the potential of nanosilver as a key solution, particularly for the new capital city of Nusantara (IKN), which is located near a malaria-endemic region (Sepaku District). This material could provide significant protection for residents in the area.
In addition to the scientific presentation, the conference facilitated networking with international experts, including Yan Jin Wang, Ph.D., from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan; Songsak Srianujata, Ph.D., from Mahidol University, Thailand; Prof. Dato Dr. Ibrahim Jantan from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; and other colleagues. These interactions have opened doors for future collaborations.
The event also marked a follow-up to existing partnerships with University Putra Malaysia (UPM), where discussions began on potential joint programs for 2025, including Student Go International, inbound and outbound student exchanges, staff exchanges, and more.
This international engagement offers significant benefits, paving the way for further cooperation, and it is essential that these opportunities be followed up with tangible actions.
