From February 24 to 26, 2024, Master of Epidemiology Study Program, Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Diponegoro had the honor of hosting distinguished visiting professors from South Korea. The event welcomed Prof. Jeon Bo-Young from the Department of Biomedical Lab Science, Yonsei University, Prof. Han Jin-Hee and Dr. Jun Hojong from the Department of Environmental Biology & Tropical Medicine, Kangwon National University.
This academic exchange aimed to strengthen international collaboration in education, research, and community service (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi) between Indonesian and South Korean institutions. The visiting professors engaged in a series of meaningful activities, including discussions on academic partnerships, guest lectures, and specialized training sessions.
Strengthening International Collaboration. One of the key objectives of this visit was to explore and develop potential joint collaborations in higher education, scientific research, and community outreach. Discussions focused on future partnerships in areas such as epidemiology, infectious diseases, and laboratory sciences. These dialogues are expected to lay the groundwork for long-term academic cooperation between both countries.
Insightful Guest Lectures. The event featured two guest lectures, providing valuable insights into infectious diseases: Prof. Han Jin-Hee delivered a lecture on “Malaria Infection to Human Red Blood Cells”, offering an in-depth look into malaria pathogenesis and its impact on human health and how the molecular technique used in public health science. Prof. Jeon Bo-Young presented on “Tick-Borne Diseases”, discussing the epidemiology, transmission, and control strategies for diseases caused by ticks. These lectures attracted a large audience of undergraduate and postgraduate students to expand their knowledge in infectious disease research.
Hands-On Training in Mosquito Trapping. Another highlight of the event was the practical training session on mosquito trapping using the BG-Pro trap by Dr Jun Hojong, an entomologist. This training provided participants with hands-on experience in entomological surveillance techniques, crucial for studying vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria.
The visit of these esteemed professors from South Korea not only enhanced academic knowledge but also strengthened international cooperation in the field of global health and infectious diseases. Through collaborative research, educational exchange, and community-based initiatives, this partnership is expected to bring lasting benefits to both institutions. Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Diponegoro looks forward to furthering these collaborations and welcoming more global scholars in the future.
