Copenhagen, Denmark — The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) once again showed its work at the global level through the participation of its lecturer in The Union World Conference on Lung Health which took place on November 18-21, 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark. In this prestigious international conference, a lecturer at FPH UNDIP, Novia Handayani, SKM, MA, M.Kes., was part of the presenter team, chaired by Dr. dr. Anung Sugihantono, M.Kes.

The presenter team presented a scientific paper entitled “TAPS exposures, smoke-free area policies, and individual factors influence the intention and smoking behavior among adolescents in Central Java, Indonesia.” In addition to Novia Handayani as a representative of FKM UNDIP, this team also consists of Dr. dr. Anung Sugihantono, M.Kes. as the Chairman of PPPKMI Central Java and Dr. Nurjanah, SKM, M.Kes. from the Faculty of Health, Dian Nuswantoro University. The research is the result of a strategic collaboration between PPPKMI Central Java, FKM UNDIP, FKes UDINUS, and the Regency/City Health Office.

This research highlights the role of exposure to Tobacco Advertising, Promotion, and Sponsorship (TAPS), the implementation of the Smoking-Free Area (SFA), and individual factors in influencing adolescent smoking intentions and behaviors in Central Java. The findings of the study make an important contribution to the development of evidence-based tobacco control policies, especially in efforts to protect adolescent health.

The participation of FKM UNDIP lecturers as presenters in this international forum is part of the faculty’s commitment to encourage the internationalization of research and improve the academic reputation of the institution. Through this forum, FKM UNDIP not only disseminates research results to the global scientific community, but also expands networks and builds international partnerships with community-based organizations, universities, and research institutions from various countries.
FKM UNDIP’s active participation in The Union World Conference on Lung Health 2025 affirms the role of the faculty as a center for the development of public health sciences that is responsive to global issues, as well as making a real contribution to the tobacco control agenda and improving public health in Indonesia.
